Background and Clinical Approach

Hi, I’m Sarah.

I’m an Associate Clinical Social Worker providing virtual therapy for adults, teens, and families across Texas.

My work focuses on helping people understand how stress, trauma, and relationships have shaped the way they cope and connect. Much of my work centers on trauma histories and grief and loss. This can include childhood adversity, family-of-origin wounds, sexual or relational trauma, chronic stress, identity-based harm, or losses that don’t always have space to be processed—such as pet loss, estrangement, or major life transitions. I’m comfortable sitting with complex emotions and helping you make sense of what feels unfinished or heavy.

My approach is person-centered and humanistic at its core. I value empathy, unconditional positive regard, and authenticity. I show up as a real person in the room and aim to create a space where you don’t have to perform, explain yourself perfectly, or hold everything together. I trust that people have an innate capacity for growth, and therapy helps create the conditions where that growth can happen.

Clients often describe me as calm, grounded, and easy to talk to. Our work is collaborative and relational. We pay attention to what’s happening in real time—your emotions, your body, your reactions—and make sense of your experiences together. I also pay close attention to the nervous system. Stress and trauma don’t just live in memory—they show up in the body as anxiety, shutdown, fatigue, tension, or feeling disconnected. Together we use somatic and regulation-based approaches to help you feel more present, connected, and at home in yourself.

I work with adults and teens navigating trauma, anxiety, burnout, attachment and relationship challenges, identity questions, and life transitions. I also work with children (8+) and families using a developmentally attuned and relationship-centered approach. I view behavior as communication and focus on helping young people feel safe, understood, and supported. With children, I tend to be animated and creative, incorporating play, games, storytelling, and other experiential tools to build rapport and process emotions. I collaborate closely with caregivers and bring experience from school-based and higher-acuity settings, which helps me understand the emotional, behavioral, and systemic stressors many families face. I provide LGBTQIA+ affirming and neurodivergent-affirming care and remain attentive to how culture, identity, and systems of oppression shape mental health.

I earned my B.A. in Sociology from the University of California, Berkeley and my Master of Science in Social Work from the University of Texas at Austin. I also have hands-on experience applying the Neurosequential Model (NMT) developed by Dr. Bruce Perry to understand how trauma impacts development across the lifespan. I am a certified 200-hour yoga instructor and thoughtfully integrate mind–body awareness when helpful.

If you’re looking for therapy that feels thoughtful, relational, and grounded in real understanding, I’d be glad to work with you.
